My fellow solo gamer, Giles Pound, recently invited me to write a guest post for his blog, Both Sides of My Table. I chose to write about some of my early experiences traveling alone, and how they ultimately contributed to my current love of solo gaming. You can check out the post here.
Also, here's a photo from my first solo trip abroad. I went to Berlin, Germany in 2007 and it changed my life for the better! Here, I am posing with a bust of Heinrich Schliemann, a methodologically questionable archaeologist who discovered what we now believe to be the site of Troy. Ah, to be that young again...

I’ve watched your Dice Tower segment for a while now, but recently came across your blog. Lot of great thoughts as I’ve slowly been getting more interested in solo gaming. Anyway, my wife and I will be in Germany this December. This time we are planning to jump over to Paris for the last few days. Trying to decide between plane, train, and automobile. Care to share more about making the trip by train?

Hi Brad! Thanks for reading! I highly recommend taking the train—you can get a ticket for an overnight trip in a sleeper car, then wake up in a whole new country! I avoid airports whenever possible, and have no intention of driving in a foreign country if I can help it, so for me, trains are where it's at.
